Liberal education: Its goals and methods

Abstract

An Abstract of the AUK Magazine article entitled: "Liberal Education: Its Goals and Methods" by William B. Pickett, Professor of History, Visiting Professor of American Studies, American University in Kyrgyzstan "The mastery necessary to teach well should be the goal of liberal education. Mastery exists if one can think about a subject-an idea, object, event, theory, or concept—from a variety of viewpoints; make appropriate comparisons with similar subjects in other cultures, times, or disciplines; and relate them to new situations." The atmosphere and educational practices of active learning and critical thinking at the American University in Kyrgyzstan lend themselves to this result.
