Institutionalizing and academic culture of research

Abstract

Research is the heart of the intellectual life of the university. An academic culture of research is engendered by increasing the visibility of good researchers as role models, by rewarding those who do good research, by providing time and space to carry out research, and by facilitating the application for and management of research grants. Taking these steps will provide an institutional base for a community of scholars which generates intellectual curiosity and pursues the research to satisfy it.
